Supporters of Carterton’s new multi-purpose community centre have until 5 September to secure their personalised engraved brick for the courtyard before the centre opens in October.
“Buying a brick is a great way for individuals, families and businesses to be permanently recognised in the centre as supporters,” said Carterton Events Centre Trust chairman, John Greenwood. More than 130 bricks have been sold to date.
The bricks are being sold by the Trust to help meet its fundraising target of $1.5 million to assist with the centre’s construction. A single engraved brick costs $100, a double brick $200 and a brick engraved with a logo is $200. All proceeds from the brick sales will go to the Carterton Events Centre Trust.
While there will be the chance to buy bricks after the centre opened, Mr Greenwood said the architect wanted to get as many as possible into the courtyard for the opening of the centre in October.
“Local support for our fundraising efforts has certainly increased over the past few months and we have had fantastic feedback after the open day in June,” Mr Greenwood said. “We continue to welcome donations through tiered sponsorship options or the Buy a Brick programme no contribution is too small.
The council-owned centre to be built in Holloway Street includes an upgraded and extended public library and a new town hall/auditorium able to host performing arts, cultural and community activities, exhibitions, conferences and social events. A youth centre will provide a robust, dedicated space for young people and children will benefit from new Plunket rooms and the toy library. A large foyer will double as an art exhibition area and information centre. Modern meeting rooms will provide comfortable places where locals and visitors can gather. |
