Polly Gillespie is one half of New Zealand’s longest-running radio show team, the other half being her (now ex) husband, Grant Kereama. In various iterations, they’ve been on the air together since 1991. Polly was also one of the most popular columnists for Woman’s Day for almost two decades, with her ‘Dear Polly’ agony aunt column.
Covid19 threw a massive spanner in the works for Polly – not only did she lose her radio show, the magazine she wrote religiously for crumbled and life took some unexpected twists and turns. During the period which tested her resilience to the core, she was offer the opportunity to write a book – her story! Well she is fearlessly honest around being a woman, is courageous, and she doesn’t hold back … nothing is taboo. She walks the reader through some of the ups and downs of life, with advice, warnings, and stories simply involving the awkwardness of being Polly. She believes that at the very least these will make you feel normal!
Polly is empathetic and self-deprecating, with a world of experience, she hopes to make you feel better about your own misadventures and by way of her unfortunate experiments with life, she might even prevent you from going through some of the same turmoil. If nothing else, you will get some great yarns from someone who evidently has plenty of resilience and experience, an open mind and a warm heart.
It’s going to be a wild ride, so grab the women in your life and see you there!
The wonderful team from Hedley’s Bookshop will be there on the night with Polly’s book for sale and the opportunity to have it personally signed.
