Stroll along the banks of the Waipoua River in Central Masterton. Learn about the many major changes to the river. People have lived near to the Waipoua River for centuries. From pre European times to the present people have walked beside, swam in, fished, drawn water from and utilised her for many other purposes. Become a part of the Waipoua’s history by strolling along tracks on her banks. Learn about the many changes that have occurred to her over the past 170 years. What is happening to her now and plans for the future. The area around the Waipoua has been witness to numerous events that have contributed to stories of mana whenua and the town of Masterton. No matter what season it is a walk along the Waipoua provides one with lovely surroundings, interesting history and the chance to create incidental health benefits. Location: Starts at: Farriers Carpark Chapel Street north Masterton Length: Various from 2 to 5 kilometres as the track links with Henley Lake. 1.5 hours full loop
