Carterton to Masterton Passengers
Carterton’s Daffodil Festival in the early Spring creates a great day out for the whole family! Thanks to our longstanding relationship with the Carterton Railway Museum, we’ve been able to give Wairarapa locals the opportunity to travel onboard this special annual train, with the support of the Carterton District Council, and the Wairarapa Times-Age.
Tickets are available for a short heritage train excursion between Carterton and Masterton and return. Travel on Steam Inc’s heritage train through the Wairarapa, an affordable and relaxing outing for the whole family!
This year there are some NEW & exciting options for those who travel to also take part in the Daffodil Festival at Carterton.
Travelling from Wellington:
Tickets are still available for the Wellington to Carterton leg of the train trip.

Carterton’s Daffodil Festival in the early Spring creates a great day out for the whole family. Why not travel there in style by a heritage train, let Steam Incorporated take the stress out of travel as you take the train to the Wairarapa. This year, our train has reduced capacity, so be sure to book in quickly!
Hauled by our heritage locomotives, take a glimpse into the bygone era of train travel as we clear the rush of Wellington, racing through the suburbs of Petone, Lower Hutt & Upper Hutt and on to Carterton. You’ll have a few hours to disembark and go and explore Carterton’s annual Daffodil Festival , before jumping on the train for the return journey home.
Shuttle buses will run from the town centre to the daffodil fields. The fields are not suitable for walkers or wheelchairs due to uneven grounds.
